Students were inspired by a host of career paths as part of a Careers Fair, which challenged them to think ambitiously about their future.
The fair, organised by The Gainsborough Academy, is part of a whole week encouraging students to think about their plans. It also showed students the plans for Gainsborough’s development – highlighting a bright future for anyone who pursues a career in the town.
Eve Fawcett-Moralee, Executive Director of Economic and Commercial Growth, gave a presentation to all students about the Council’s plans for Gainsborough and the careers available.
She said: “I’ve been honoured to discuss Gainsborough’s future with the pupils of Gainsborough Academy. I’ve been impressed by the complexity and sophistication of questions from all the young people I’ve spoken to today. They’re all very invested in seeing Gainsborough flourish and beginning exciting careers in the town.”
One impressive feature of the day was a machine provided by AMP Rose, a Gainsborough company at the forefront of machine building, processing and packaging solutions for the confectionery, chocolate and snack industries across the globe.
Alan Shaw, HR Manager at AMP Rose, said: “we’ve had some great interest from both boys and girls, which has been exciting. The machine has really inspired them to think about what they’re capable of.”
Ollie White, Year 9 pupil at the school, was particularly impressed by the displays.
He said: “It’s good to see what jobs are really like, it makes you realise how many things you can do in life if you work hard.”
Assistant Principal of The Gainsborough Academy, Joanna Phillips, was delighted with the turnout from local companies, and the enthusiasm of students.
She said: “Today’s fair has been even bigger and better than last year. It’s wonderful to see so many employers, universities and colleges here. It’s been brilliant working with West Lindsey to organise this event.”
